Away from the port, the Saint-Tropez peninsula is surprisingly wild: pine-shaded paths, hidden coves and turquoise water. The Sentier du Littoral, the coastal path marked in yellow, links most of the best walks in Saint-Tropez and leads to places otherwise reachable only by boat. Here are our five favourites.
1. The Sentier du Littoral, from the village to Pampelonne
The classic. Start at the Tour du Portalet by La Ponche and follow the yellow markings past the old cemetery, the Baie des Canebiers, Cap des Salins, Pointe de Capon and Cap du Pinet, all the way to the sand of Pampelonne. Around 11 km, easy to moderate, with endless chances to stop for a swim. Return by road or by bus.
2. The old village and the Citadel
An easy loop of about 5 km through the port, the lanes of La Ponche and up to the Citadel for the finest view over the gulf. Best in the late afternoon, when the light turns golden.
3. The village to Plage des Graniers
A short walk of around ten minutes from the port, below the Citadel, to a small cove that feels a world away from the crowds.
4. L'Escalet to Cap Taillat, Ramatuelle
For us, the most beautiful walk on the peninsula. From the Plage de l'Escalet car park, follow the coastal path to the narrow isthmus of Cap Taillat, with the sea on both sides. About 5.5 km and a little over two hours.
5. Cap Camarat to L'Escalet
An easy coastal walk below the Camarat lighthouse, between pines and small coves, with wide views out to sea.
